ARKANSAS REPERTORY THEATRE 2024 SEASON
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE:

JANE BENNET – Late 20s-early 30s. The eldest and most beautiful Bennet daughter. Kind, idealistic, diffident. Always tries to do the right thing.
LIZZY BENNET – A year or two younger than Jane. Clever, spirited; can be sharp-tongued. Gets flustered, which makes her klutzy. Prides herself on good judgment. Not especially beautiful. Very very scared of marriage, after absorbing the lessons of her parents’ marriage.
LYDIA – 14 (must be 18+ to play). The youngest Bennet. Lively, prone to imitating others’ behavior and eavesdropping.
CHARLOTTE LUCAS – Same age as Lizzy. A practical girl with a good sense of humor. LADY CATHERINE – Patrician Caesar-meets-drill sergeant.
MISS DE BOURGH – Lady Catherine’s daughter; a gremlin. Probably allergic to sun. Underneath all her veils, she may be covered in scales.
MR. DARCY – Late 30s-40s. One of the richest men in England. Too proper for his own good; awkward in most social contexts. Prides himself on self-control and good judgment.
MR. BINGLEY – Late 30s-40s. Loves the world and the world loves him. Mr. Darcy’s particular friend. Almost literally a dog.
MR. COLLINS – A pedantic, obtuse man. The original mansplainer. Rector to Lady Catherine.
WICKHAM – An unfairly handsome and charming gentleman. Probably a sociopath. Raised with Darcy.
MRS. BENNET – The matriarch of the Bennet family. Mostly a silly woman, of mean understanding and variable temper. Hypochondriac; when she’s upset, she fancies that she’s dying. The business of her life is to get her daughters married. She traumatizes her family with some regularity.
MR. BENNET – The patriarch of the Bennet family. Finds amusement in absurdity; often looks for a respectable escape from the chaos of his family life. Can be somewhat apathetic; probably a bit depressed, under everything. Enjoys antagonizing. Disappointed in his marriage.
MARY – The third Bennet girl. Violent and dark undertones; prone to pedanticism and sulking. A dark goth Brontë character trapped in an Austen world. Coughs to get attention, or to make a point; may fancy that she is dying.
MISS BINGLEY – A very rich, very beautiful young woman. Fancies herself witty.
FOOTLOOSE:

REN McCORMACK - Teenager. Rebellious, magnetic, sincere, honest and hugely likable. Terrific pop/rock tenor with falsetto. Dances/moves well. Smart, commanding, able to navigate the comedic and dramatic with intelligence and heart. Star presence.
ARIEL MOORE - Teenager. Rebellious, complicated, fun-loving and sensitive. Physically comfortable and commanding, with a terrific pop/rock belt. Must dance or move extremely well.
REV SHAW MOORE - Late 40s – 50s. Spiritual leader and powerful influence in the town. Navigating his own grief and struggling to maintain control of his pulpit and his family. Moves well. Great baritone with command and great charisma.
WILLARD HEWITT - High school student. Bari-Tenor. Any ethnicity. Lovable, loyal, a bit dim and shy around Rusty. Full of heart. Must move well. Great pop bari-tenor. Smart, very funny, and adept at physical comedy.
VI MOORE - Late 40s – early 50s. Any ethnicity. Despite living in her husband’s shadow, she is strong, perceptive, adept at navigating a challenging course with love and compassion. Powerful presence and heart of the Moore family.
RUSTY - High school student. Any ethnicity. Wise cracking, fun-loving motor mouth. Full of quirks and shy around Willard. Powerful belt. Dances well.
CHUCK CRANSTON - High school student. Ariel’s boyfriend and the town bad boy. Demanding, possessive and jealous, but also charismatic. Rock tenor.
ENSEMBLE: actors, singers, and dancers of varying identities and abilities.

Zarrel Zuttah: 22 / M / African American. A recent graduate and born leader. In the military. Allen Bishop: 20 / M / African American. A Junior in college majoring in Political Science. A thinker. Stanley Plummer: 21 / M / African American. A Senior in college. Dealing with grief and depression.
Fred Bynes: 21 / M / African American. A Senior in college. A wise historian and Notorious B.I.G. fan who played high school basketball with LeBron James.
Vic Norris: 20/ M / African American. A Junior in college. A Detroit born and bred Republican with a broken heart.
Perry Sample: 21 / M / African American. A Senior in college. A die hard 2Pac fan, jokester, former playboy, and Chapter President of the fraternity.
HELLO, DOLLY!

Mrs. Dolly Gallagher Levi [Role Cast, Seeking Understudy] Age: 35-60. Vocal range: Mezzo Soprano G3-G5. Dance ability: Some. Dolly is a strong, high-spirited character who loves life and has a great deal of charm. She is a widow in her middle years, an opportunist and a meddling matchmaker. She has a commanding presence, but she must also show compassion and vulnerability.
Horace Vandergelder: Age: 40-65. Vocal range: Baritone B2-E4. Dance ability: Some. Vandergelder is a well-known widowed “half millionaire”, authoritative, strong and gruff, set in his ways, but shows a vulnerable, softer side. He is the owner of a Hay and Feed store and a client of Dolly’s.
Cornelius Hackl: Age: 25-40. Vocal range: Baritone. Bb2-F#4. Dance ability: Strong. He is Vandergelder’s chief clerk, 33 years old, charming and naive, but not as naive as Barnaby. Cornelius is energetic, enthusiastic and adventurous, he seeks the company of Irene Molloy.
Barnaby Tucker: Vocal range: Baritone C3-G#4. Dance ability: Strong. A 17-year-old assistant to Cornelius. He is fun loving and naive. His energized boyish innocence comes through.
Irene Molloy: Age: 30-40. Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano G3-F5. Dance ability: strong. A beautiful and charming widow, she is a milliner with a hat shop near 14th Street in New York City. Dolly “matches” her with Vandergelder. A smart, classy lady that ends up spending the evening out on the town with Cornelius, Barnaby, and Minnie.
Minnie Fay Age: 17-22. Vocal range: Mezzo-Soprano D4-F5. Dance ability: Strong. A young girl who works in Irene’s hat shop. Naive but straight laced.
Ambrose Kemper: Age: 18-25. Vocal range: Tenor E3-G#4. Dance ability: Strong. A young, energetic struggling artist, good natured and accommodating who wants Vandergelder’s permission to marry his niece, Ermengarde.
Ermengarde: Vocal range: Mezzo Soprano E4-G#5. Dance ability: Strong. She is Mr. Vandergelder’s 17-year-old niece who is very dramatic and prone to tears. She wants to marry Ambrose.
Ernestina : Age: 30-45. Vocal range: Any. Dance ability: Some. An eccentric-looking girl in need of Dolly's matchmaker services.
Rudy: Age: 40-60. Vocal range: Bass F2 - C4. Dance ability: Some. Maitre’d of the Harmonia Gardens, proper, commanding.
Ensemble: Seeking equity and non-equity actors, singers, and dancers of varying identities and abilities.

SUZIE - (early 50s, All ethnicities) Small-town reporter, lifetime smoker. Survivalist.
TUCKER - (late 20s to mid 30s, All Ethnicities) Afghanistan veteran, Suzie’s cameraman. Tries to stay positive.
