Actors Theatre of Louisville 2023-24 Season EPA
Actors Theatre of Louisville is committed to anti-racism and anti-oppression practices in all areas, including casting. Our goal is to create a casting process that is welcoming, absent of intimidation, and serves those auditioning as well as the creative team in the full exploration of the material. Building an environment of mutual trust that upholds our mission to unlock human potential, build community, and enrich quality of life by engaging people in theatre that reflects the wonder and complexity of our time.
In reference to the descriptions below – these are descriptions of the characters as identified in the script and in collaboration with the creative team. They are not meant to be exhaustive of who should play these roles and we seek to cast expansively and intentionally. We acknowledge the history of systemic exclusionary practices and are working to dismantle barriers to theatre-making and auditioning for performers of all races, ethnicities, national origins, gender expressions, body types, and abilities.
As an ADA compliant organization, we welcome performers of all abilities. We are prepared to engage interpreters, utilize captioning, and provide any reasonable accommodations and resources needed in order to cast performers with disabilities. We also recognize that most characters are written on the binary (use he/him or she/her pronouns) and we invite gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with.
Please let us know if you have any questions or requests. If there are any provisions we can make to enhance and support your audition experience, just let us know. Please reach out through the note section of your breakdown submission. or by emailing Kavin Moore, kmoore2@actorstheatre.org .

In this inventive adaptation that bounces between humor and horror, Hamill reimagines Bram Stoker’s vampire classic as a full-throated battle cry against toxic masculinity. No damsels in distress, no romanticized villains—just a gleeful stake through the heart of the patriarchy.

He is loyal to his uncle, and thinks nothing of being sent to ransack monasteries to find money for the wars.
CONSTANCE/EXECUTIONER (She/Her) the widow of King John’s elder brother Geoffrey, and Prince Arthur’s mother. Loving and Loving is inspired by the lives of Richard and Mildred Loving, an interracial couple from Virginia who were arrested in 1958 for the crime of being married. Told from a distinctly 21st-century perspective, the play weaves together the story of the Lovings’ landmark civil rights struggle and interviews with mixed-identity folx in the Kentuckiana community—thoughtfully exploring the joys and challenges of multi-racial identity, and exuberantly celebrating our right to love who we choose.
Seeking:
MILDRED LOVING (She/Her) African American. Wife of Richard Loving. A shy, meek person who finds they have an extraordinary amount of courage. Comfortable with dance/movement.
RICHARD LOVING (He/Him) Scotch/Irish American. Husband of Mildred Loving. A gentle person who loves his wife and wants nothing more than to provide for his family despite the frustrations of the world. Comfortable with dance/movement.
MAYA (any gender identity) Mixed-Racial/Bicultural. Serves as a guide through Mildred and Richard’s story and through history. They are a descendant of the Lovings’ - not necessarily biologically, but culturally and spiritually - Maya represents the legacy made possible by their courage. Also BERNIE, REPORTER, SIDNEY, PEGGY, DONALD, JUDGE BAZILE, STRANGER, and POLICEMAN. Comfortable with dance/movement and singing.

This joyful new comedy introduces theater audiences to the world of Church Usher Board culture and celebrates same gender loving church folks, and the power and joy of being your authentic self.
