BREAKDOWN
JIANG YING, late 20s-40s. Female, Asian. Beautiful, charming, sociable, well-bred. Her father was a Nationalist, on the side of Chiang Kai-shek, opponent of Mao Zedong. Gave up a promising opera career to marry Qian. Singing expertise required. Opera and classical training a plus. Character ages during the play from a young woman to 50s or 60s.
Man 1 (35 to 55; Male; Any Ethnicity) Versatile actor able to portray many roles, including prosecuting attorney, MIT Professor, Ambassador, Alexis Johnson, and others. Must have a solid German accent.
Man 2 (30 to 50; Male; Any Ethnicity) Versatile actor able to portray many roles, including Ying’s voice teacher, MIT Professor, Frank Malina, Reporter, LAPD Officer, and others.
