CLEM/REV. HURLEY - Male. (40-50) Baritone. Warm, friendly narrator. Doubles as Reverend Hurley, a kind, caring, good-hearted Parson. Must play guitar.

JOHN GRAY - Male. (40-50) High Baritone. Rapacious ol' cuss. Poor, opportunistic pig farmer who loves his family but wants to improve his lot in life. Also plays guitar and mandolin.

DAVID GRAY / SHERIFF - Male. (50-60) Sings bass. Brother of John. Rich, mean, creepy old man. Vindictive, wealthy. Plays piano / percussion.

A STRANGER - Male. (30-35) High baritone. Mysterious, dashing with a pan-European accent. Plays bass / harmonica.

In this show, the actors ARE the band. Instruments that need to be covered are guitar, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, piano, percussion, bass and harmonica. While every actor MUST be able to play an instrument, the director is flexible as to WHO plays WHAT, depending on individual skills.
