Rapid Fire Theatre's critically-acclaimed Folk Lordz presents a screening of their brand new sketch comedy series on July 11 at 9:30pm in the historic Garneau Theatre!

Political, absurd, and darkly hilarious, the new Folk Lordz series is a bold new take on the Canadian comedy tradition. Reflecting Indigenous, immigrant, and activist perspectives through the lens of biting satire, the 15-part series doesn't shy away from having a big, dumb laugh in the face of society's ills.

"In the era of Truth and Reconciliation this series fills a crucial gap in the Canadian comedy landscape," Ben Gordetsky, co-creator of Folk Lordz says. "Think the racial charge of Key and Peele, meets the absurdity of Picnicface, with a heavy dose of the social relevance of The Daily Show."

Centred on the comedic chemistry and social activism of creators Todd Houseman and Ben Gorodetsky, Folk Lordz uses colonialism, environmental destruction, xenophobia and other horrors to fuel their bizarre comedy fire. Add to that psychedelic animated sequences, visually striking cinematography, and an original score by cult indie-musician and comedian Aaron Read and you've got an extraordinary satire series.

The 15 episode sketch series was released on YouTube in spring 2018 and accumulated over 100,000 views. Vice Canada profiled Folk Lordz, saying the series was able to "make some of the saddest things still going on in Canada funny." The Folk Lordz sketches also won second place at Just For Laughs North-West's shorts competition for "The Statue" (featuring the racist statue behind Stanley Milner Library in Edmonton).

The live screening will showcase all 15 episodes of the series, as well as a short live comedy performance from the creators, and a Q and A following the screening.
