Singer Alison MacDonald will pay tribute to the most beloved songstresses to ever hit the stage at Carnegie Hall during her Beyond the Stage performance this month. During Legends of Carnegie Hall, MacDonald will sing popular tunes from chanteuses such as Patsy Cline, Judy Garland, Liza Minelli, Bette Midler, Carole King, Ella Fitzgerald, and more. MacDonald will be joined by special guests Rachel Bowron (Friday and Sunday performances) and Celeigh Cardinal (Saturday performance).
Citadel regulars may remember MacDonald from her performance in The Penelopiad in 2013. She was a participant in the Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre program that year, and she will make her return to the Citadel Mainstage series in February 2019 as Miss Honey in Matilda.
A Jessie Award-winning performer, MacDonald has worked all across the country at theatres including Citadel Theatre, The Arts Club, Western Canada Theatre, The Belfry, Thousand Islands Playhouse, Prairie Theatre Exchange, and Chemainus Theatre Festival. She is a graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts and Red Deer College's Theatre Studies Program. Having been approved by the Patsy Cline Estate to portray Patsy Cline in the musical A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline (directed by Daryl Cloran), Alison received accolades for her portrayal of the role at theatres across Canada. She recently released an album filled with music from the 1950s and '60s, and is currently working on an album with her children's duo, The Whoopsie Daisies.
Legends of Carnegie Hall is music directed by Morgan McKee. Due to popular demand, a Sunday matinee performance has been added to the schedule. Legends of Carnegie Hall runs November 16 to 18, 2018, in The Club. Tickets start at just $30 plus fees and GST.
