Audition Notice-2023 P@W ONE ACT FESTIVAL

The following provides audition information for the 2023 Playwrights@Work One Act
Festival:
Audition dates: Friday and Sunday, June 2 nd and 4 th .
Audition times: 6:30 pm Friday and 7:00 pm Sunday (registration begins at 6:00 on
Friday and 6:30 on Sunday)
Performance dates: July 28 and 29 at 8:00 pm and July 30 at 2:00 pm
All 4 original plays will be performed at each show of the Festival. Each show is listed
with cast requirements. Ages are suggested by each playwright (and/or director)

Existential Crisis by Jeff Shuster
Synopsis:
What happens when a seriously straight-laced twenty-something girl encounters a loud
and overbearing twenty-something guy in a library? It's going to take more than a bit of
soul searching to overcome the comedic mayhem that ensues before these two insecure
graduate students can have any chance at a relationship.
CAST OF CHARACTERS
GIRL: (age 20-40)  A twenty-something graduate student; easily frustrated and easily
angered; seriously straight-laced; wrapped way too tight; no nonsense; all work and no
play
BOY: (age 20-40)  A twenty-something graduate student; loud and overbearing; a
goofball; carefree and unserious;
and rather pesty

Rachel’s Song by Udi Kapen
Synopsis:
 
An Israeli-American woman, about to receive a lifetime achievement award, reflects on
her long and eventful life as a witness to and a participant in the history of Israel.

Rachel- Israeli woman 80s
Gilead-Rachels adult son 50s-60s
Yosef-Rachels father (flashback) 40s -50s
Sarah-Rachels mother (flashback) 40s 50s

Reporter-American reporter(flashback) 30s 40s

All the World by Steve Sussman
Synopsis:
When Marty, a middle-age engineer decides to suddenly change careers leaving his job
to become involved full-time in the local community theatre, there are unforeseen
circumstances he didn't anticipate.
CAST OF CHARACTERS
Marty – Late 50s professional man
Jocelyn – Late 40s - early 50s woman, his wife
Tim – any age man 30-65 - kind of a "loose cannon"
Marcia – theater stage manager, woman any age 25 – 70

Heidi Who by Jennifer Ward
Synopsis:
Kristy and Justin are expecting company, but an unplanned guest tags along with plans
to drive a wedge between them.  Justin's mom, Arlene has invited Heidi to her big
birthday bash and unwittingly stirs up an old flame that Justin had hoped was out
forever!   
CAST OF CHARACTERS
 
KRISTY – 50ish, married, overextended hostess
JUSTIN – 50ish, KRISTY’s husband, just wants mom and wife happy
ARLENE – 80, knows her mind but open to new experiences
HEIDI – 50ish, beautiful and devious
