The Coralville Center for the Performing Arts will host The One and Only Tommy Dorsey Orchestra Friday, March 24 at 7:00 PM. One of America's most-beloved jazz ensembles, the group is most famous for helping to launch the career of Frank Sinatra. The band is currently directed by Iowa native Terry Myers. Tickets cost $20-$25, and are available via the Box Office at 319.248.9372, www.CoralvilleArts.org.

"This is Big Band at its best," says Nancy Mayfield, the Patrons Services Supervisor at the CCPA. "Fans of jazz and swing music will love hearing their favorite tunes performed by a live, professional band."

Band leader Terry Myers, who is originally from southeast Iowa, is greatly looking forward to performing in his home state and seeing many friends and family. Despite having relocated to Orlando, Florida, Myers states "I will always consider myself to be an Iowan. The schools are great, the people are wonderful, and I am very proud to be from that area."

Myers was a member of the US Marine Corps Reserves for five years. After college, where he majored in music and education, Myers honed his musical talent and soon developed a successful career in Nashville and New York City. When he decided to move to Florida, Myers quickly became one of the most in-demand musicians in the state. He was a band leader at Disney World's Epcot Center for four years and, for a time, led the band at Rosie O'Grady's, which was part of the popular Church Street Station entertainment complex in downtown Orlando.

"Terry Myers is undoubtedly one of the best all-around reed players in the country today." So said Buddy Morrow, former leader of the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and one of the great musicians and band leaders who was there for the Early Stages of the "Big Band Era." "His versatility and expertise on the clarinet and saxophone are a treat to the ears", Morrow added.
