The Des Moines Playhouse continues its 91st season with a high seas adventure, "How I Became a Pirate," May 7-23. Tickets may be purchased at The Playhouse ticket office, by phone at 515-277-6261 and online at www.dmplayhouse.com.

"How I Became a Pirate" is a new play with music, based on the book by Melinda Long. A day at the beach becomes an adventure when Jeremy Jacob is whisked away by Braid Beard and his pirate crew. Jeremy thinks the pirate life is for him until he realizes it's the simple things in life -- like being tucked into bed at night -- that are important.

The "How I Became a Pirate" cast features Maxwell Schaeffer as Braid Beard, with Mary Bricker, Peter Dean, Rusk Dorsett, Pernell Ferguson, Anne Frett, Joe Parrish, and Cody Schug as his pirate crew. Samuel Maude is Jeremy Jacob. The show is directed by Ron Ziegler, with musical direction by Brenton Brown, and choreography by Alison Shafer.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
