Former Seinfeld writer and Tonight Show regular, Pat Hazell has found a unique way to communicate to the ever-growing Baby Boomer theatergoer. In a salute to Pop Culture Americana, Boomer Humorist Pat Hazell highlights the touchstones of the American family upbringing in his play THE WONDER BREAD YEARS coming to the Civic Center's Temple Theater beginning Wednesday, March 10, 2010 for a limited two-week engagement as a presentation of the 2009-2010 Prairie Meadows Temple Theater Series
Tickets for THE WONDER BREAD YEARS go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 at the Civic Center Ticket Office, all Ticketmaster locations, charge-by-phone at (800) 745-8000 and online at CivicCenter.org. Groups of 10 or more should call (515) 246-2321.
THE WONDER BREAD YEARS, written and directed by Pat Hazell, is a hilarious one-man show and tell reminding us that there is still a kid inside all of us, and a sense of wonder that is waiting to be unlocked. A salute to pure escapism and the Baby Boomer Generation, THE WONDER BREAD YEARS is akin to opening a time capsule packed with the most common youth-filled joys of childhood, such as: Hula Hoop contests; lawn darts; Kool-Aid; Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Robots; Big Wheels; Eskimo Pies, Clackers, Tuffskin Jeans and riding in the way back of the country squire wagon- reminding us all that we share more in common than we have differences.
THE WONDER BREAD YEARS, described as "pure un-pasteurized nostalgia" by The LA Times, aired on PBS as a one-hour special, where Hazell was referred to as "America's foremost Pop Culture anthropologist." This fast-paced production, hailed as "infectiously charming" by LA Weekly, gracefully walks the line between stand up and theater and is making its way across the country to rave reviews. Baby Boomers and their families are enjoying a show that not only restores a much-needed sense of wonder, but also leaves audiences reminiscing for days, savoring the past like never before.
