Repertory Theater of Iowa kicks off its 2010-2011 season with an electrifying drama by John Pielmeier called Agnes of God. The shows runs October 7-16 at the Des Moines Social Club, 1408 Locust Street across from the Pappajohn Scuplture Park downtown.
Summoned to a convent, Dr. Martha Livingstone, a court-appointed psychiatrist, is charged with assessing the sanity of a young novitiate accused of murdering her newborn. Miriam Ruth, the Mother Superior, determinedly keeps young Agnes from the doctor, arousing Livingstone's suspicions further. Who killed the infant and who fathered the tiny victim? Livingstone's questions force all three women to re-examine the meaning of faith and the power of love leading to a dramatic, compelling climax.A hit on Broadway and later on film, the New York Times called it an outstanding play that "deals intelligently with questions of religion and psychology." And the New York Post deemed it "unquestionably blindingly theatrical."Agnes of God is directed by RTI Managing Director Richard Maynard and features the talents of ensemble player Kim Grimaldi (as Mother Mirium Ruth) and guest artists Jami Bassman (as Dr. Martha Livingstone) and Amanda Lynn Mullen (as Agnes).Videos
