This holiday season, The Des Moines Playhouse presents the blockbuster Broadway musical and family favorite "Annie," with performances from Dec. 11-27.
Annie is a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find her parents. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and finds a new family and home with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace, and a lovable mutt named Sandy. The score includes such favorites as "Hard Knock Life," "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile," and, of course, "Tomorrow."
The "Annie" cast of 27 features newcomers Madison Barnes and Anne Teeling, alternating in the role of Annie; Greg Millar ("The Full Monty") as Daddy Warbucks; Elisabeth Ballstadt ("The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid") as Grace; and, reprising their roles from the 2000 production, Sue Tell as Miss Hannigan, Brett Spahr as Rooster, and Melissa Kellar as Lilly St. Regis. The show is directed by Kathy Pingel, with musical direction by Francine Griffith, and choreography by Alison Shafer.
The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
Tickets may be purchased at The Playhouse ticket office, by phone at 515-277-6261 and online at www.dmplayhouse.com. "Annie" is sponsored by Bankers Trust and Ruan. For more information about The Playhouse and "Annie" contact The Playhouse ticket office at
