Celebrated author Nicholson Baker comes to town with his New York Times bestseller, SUBSTITUTE: Going to School With a Thousand Kids. In this work of narrative nonfiction, Baker takes on the topic of education, recounting 28 days of a spring semester he spent as a substitute teacher in Maine public schools. SUBSTITUTE expresses outrage, humor, and empathy as it delves into the world of curiosity and learning, in his most impressive work of nonfiction yet.

The evening's guest moderator is The Music Hall's film and outreach manager Chris Curtis, who has arranged for several remarkable education-oriented panel discussions and films including Waiting for Superman, The Race to Nowhere and Most Likely to Succeed). Said Curtis, "This remarkable book inspires us to look again at America's educational system and question what we see. I look forward to his visit and the chance to talk through 'what's next?,' with our guest as well as with educators, parents, and students in the audience."
