Though the heat is still stifling in the Des Moines area, several area theater companies will be ringing in the fall theater season and kicking off their 2012-2013 season this month. Read on to find out more.
The Des Moines Playhouse opens their season with the Andrew Lloyd Weber musical Sunset Boulevard. This Tony winner for Best Musical, based on the Billy Wilder film of the same name, tells the tale of former silent movie star Norma Desmond and her desperate attempt to stay relevant in the golden age of Hollywood. On September 14th, Repertory Theater of Iowa begins the season with the debut of an original stage adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility by RTI’s own Kerry Skram. Finally, StageWest opens the season with Tracy Letts’ Superior Donuts. Superior Donutsportrays the unpredictable relationship between a rundown donut shop owner and his only employee, a black teenager who wants the shop to prosper.
