The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents "The Adventures of Nate the Great" and "Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures," Oct. 8- Oct. 24. Tickets may be purchased at The Playhouse ticket office, 831 42nd St.; by phone at 515-277-6261; and online at dmplayhouse.com. "The Adventures of Nate the Great" and "Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures" is sponsored by The Iowa Clinic and ITA Group.

The Playhouse invites you to experience two shows, combined for an adventure-filled visit to the theatre.

First is "Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures," based on the books by Lois Lowry. Gooney Bird Greene, played by Maddy Swaim, casts herself as the hero in the most improbable, outlandish stories: how she arrived from China on a flying carpet, how she got a lovely pair of diamond earrings at the local palace, how she directed a symphony orchestra while driving through the center of town, and how her beloved cat, Catman, was consumed by a cow. Are these stories really true? Of course they are because, as Gooney Bird proudly proclaims, she only tells "absolutely true stories!" "Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures" is directed by Kathy Pingel.

After intermission, the audience will tag along with the sharpest kid detective to ever solve his neighborhood's mysteries. Nate the Great, played by Drake Hager, has found lost balloons, books, slippers, chickens, and even a lost goldfish. When his friend Annie calls and asks for his help finding a missing picture of her dog, Fang, Nate is on the case. "The Adventures of Nate the Great," based on the series of books by Marjorie Weinman Sharmat, is directed by Ron Ziegler.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
