Des Moines Community Playhouse Hosts Teen Theatre Nights Beg. Oct. 8

The Des Moines Community Playhouse is the home for Second Saturday, an alternative Saturday night entertainment for young people in grades 6-12. Cost is $8. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, and is available online at www.dmplayhouse.com.

Now in its 18th year of theatre fun at the Playhouse, Second Saturday is an evening of sketch comedy, fast-paced games and think-on-your-feet in spur-of-the-moment situations. While this isn't a class or workshop, it is planned and supervised by Playhouse education staff. Teens work in groups their own age, and meet lots of new people. Snacks are included.

Second Saturday is held each month, September-May. The upcoming 2011-12 season schedule is as follows: Nov. 12; Dec. 10; Jan. 14, 2012; Feb. 11, 2012; Mar. 10, 2012; Apr. 14, 2012; and May 12, 2012.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
