The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents the Tony Award winning musical, "Monty Python's Spamalot," opens tonight, July 17, where it will run through Aug. 9. Tickets may be purchased online at dmplayhouse.com, by phone at 515-277-6261, or at the Playhouse ticket office, 831 42nd St.

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," "Spamalot" retells the legend of King Arthur (Kent Fieldsend), his Knights of the Round Table (Brad Church, Mary Maddy, Charlie Reese, Kyle Bochart), his faithful Patsy (Brett Spahr), and the Lady of the Lake (Jackie Schmillen). A bevy of beautiful showgirls, catapulting cows, killer rabbits, and French people are just a few of the reasons audiences eat up this winner of the 2005 Tony Award for Best Musical.

Featured songs include "The Song That Goes Like This," "He is Not Dead Yet," "Knights of the Round Table," and "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life." Bring your friends, and find your grail at the Des Moines Community Playhouse!

The Playhouse cast is directed by Ron Ziegler with music direction by Brenton Brown and choreography by Alison Shafer. The cast includes Charlene Becicka, Halen Becker, Austin Locke, Taylor Millar, Mark Morrison, Austen Naggatz, Andrew Overton, Nathan Smith, Alexandra Stark, Robert Uy, Sarah Weinberg, and Jill Ziegler.

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
