The Des Moines Community Playhouse is holding spring break workshops Mar. 14 and 17-21 for grades 3-8 and Mar. 17-21 for grades 1-2. Students in grades 1-2 will explore A Whole New World, while those in grades 3-8 will rehearse and present "Disney's Aladdin KIDS," as part of the theatre's Performance Academy.
"Fly me, fly me, fly me high, Magic Carpet to the sky! Take me, take me, take me do, on an adventure ride with you!" Students in grades 1-2 will experience A Whole New World through creative drama, role-playing, and lots of hands-on activities. Students will explore fairy tales from Europe, tall tales from the United States, folk tales from Africa, and more. Students will also attend a final dress rehearsal of "Aladdin KIDS"on Friday afternoon.
The Playhouse's Performance Academy is being offered over spring break for students in grades 3-8. Students will audition for roles in "Disney's Aladdin KIDS." Daily rehearsals will culminate in performances on Friday, Mar. 21, and Saturday, Mar. 22. Enrollment in Performance Academy guarantees a role in the 35-minute musical adaptation of the popular Disney movie.
The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
