The Des Moines Community Playhouse presents The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, Jan. 4-20, 2019, in the Kate Goldman Children's Theatre. Tickets may be purchased online at dmplayhouse.com, by phone at 515-277-6261, or at the Playhouse ticket office, 831 42nd St. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is sponsored by Nationwide.

Based on Kate DiCamillo's book, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is a story of friendship and finding oneself. Edward Tulane is a very happy but an extremely self-centered toy china rabbit owned by 10-year-old Abilene Tulane. As Abilene and her family go on an ocean voyage, Edward is ripped from her hands and finds himself submerged on the ocean floor.

Edward's journey introduces him to a fisherman's family, a hobo and his dog, a farmer, a four-year-old girl with tuberculosis, and a doll mender. With each of the individuals he encounters, Edward begins to miss Abilene and understand the care he could've given to Abilene if he hadn't been so selfish, reflecting on how to love and care for others.

Note: As in the book, Edward's journey takes him into experiences that include some violence and the death of a character. Some children may find these scenes to be sad or emotionally disturbing.

The Playhouse cast is directed by Jodi Jinks. The cast includes Craig Petersen, Maggie Schmitt, Laura Sparks, and Oliver Thrun.

The Playhouse, now in its 100th season, is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
