The Des Moines Community Playhouse has added a performance of "The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood" on Saturday, Mar. 14, at 4:00 PM. Tickets for this and the originally scheduled performances, through Mar. 15, can be purchased online at dmplayhouse.com, by phone at 515-277-6261, and at the Playhouse ticket office.
It sure is hard to be humble when you're a swashbuckling, egocentric super-hero. Robin Hood (Cody Schug), the gallant guy-in-green, tries his best as he swaggers through this frantically funny, Monty Pythonesque retelling of the classic. This time the legendary legend, in his never-ending quest to aid the needy, encounters a lovely damsel-in-distress (Charlene Becicka); an ever-scheming sheriff (Nicholas Root) who would rather bowl a strike than hit a bull's-eye; and a bad-guy monarch-wannabe (Douglas Cochrane). Combine them with a band of spoon-wielding Merry Men whose collective IQs equal six, and you've got an irreverent jaunt through Sherwood Forest you won't soon forget!
Audiences are loving the show, and sharing their comments on social media. "This is just really good entertainment and it provides some silliness that we all need to experience from time to time." "Funny, funny, funny." "The show is hilarious."
The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
