DM Playhouse Adds 2/1 Performance THE HUNDRED DRESSES

The Des Moines Community Playhouse has added a performance of "The Hundred Dresses" at 4:00 PM, Saturday, Feb. 1. Tickets for this and the originally scheduled performances, through Feb. 2, can be purchased at dmplayhouse.com, at The Playhouse box office, and by phone at 515-277-6261.

Wanda Petronski's classmates make fun of her name and her accent. She wears the same faded blue dress to school every day. So when Wanda tells her classmates she has 100 dresses at home, they don't believe her. Worse, they tease her. When Wanda moves away, her classmate Maddie feels awful. She decides she is "never going to stand by and say nothing again." This charming story about being kind and standing up to bullying is based on the book by Eleanor Estes.

Audiences have fallen in love with "The Hundred Dresses." Eat, Play, Love Des Moines posted on Facebook, "Great performance! Even my six year old enjoyed it and understood the lessons being portrayed." Another parent posted, "Our 7 year old daughter is asking to go again." And KIOA's Maxwell Schaeffer said, "Just as moving, beautifully staged and insightful as any of the best stage plays I've seen in Des Moines in many years, professional or nonprofessional. It's a pinnacle production for the Kate Goldman Children's Theatre at The Playhouse."

The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
