The Civic Center of Greater Des Moines announced that it will be introducing two new youth summer camps as part of the Civic Center's education and community engagement programs.  The camps are designed to provide participants ranging in age from 6 to 19 with unique and lasting theater experiences facilitated by professional artists.

Jersey Boys Broadway Camp: Triple Threat Musical Theater Intensive

July 12-16, 2010, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ages: 14-19

Registration Fee: $375 (include a ticket to attend the July 8, 2 p.m. performance of JERSEY BOYS)

Cast and crew members of JERSEY BOYS will lead an intensive musical theater day camp for teens at the Civic Center. The camp focuses on the triple threat of musical theater – acting, singing, and dancing – featuring master classes with the professionals, as well as audition techniques, professional headshots, and once-in-a-lifetime networking opportunities. This intensive camp specializes in training young performers who are highly interested in musical theater. A ticket to the July 8 matinee of JERSEY BOYS is included with the registration fee. Participants will be expected to have a monologue and song prepared. Auditions are not required to participate in the camp; however, previous training or experience is necessary.

Children's Theater Camp: The Jungle Book

August 16-20, 2010, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Monday - Thursday) & 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. (Friday)

THE JUNGLE BOOK camp performance: Friday, August 20, 5:30 p.m.

Ages: 6-18

Registration Fee: $200

This weeklong day camp provides young artists an opportunity to explore their talents and skills as musical theater actors and directors in a full-scale, professionally supported production. The morning workshops further their understanding of theater and while developing their acting skills. The afternoon sessions will be rehearsals of THE JUNGLE BOOK with Missoula Children's Theatre directors for a performance starring the campers. All camp participants will audition for their role during the first session, and the week culminates with a friends and family performance of THE JUNGLE BOOK on the Civic Center's main stage. No previous experience necessary, however, all participants must be entering first grade or above.

A limited number of scholarships to either camp will be available based on need.To register for either class or more information, please visit CivicCenter.org
