Global Crossroads of Vibrant Modern Dance: Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Fall Concert September 25 & 26

Journeys, presented by Cleo Parker Robinson Dance and Denver Arts and Venues, September 25 and 26 at The Ellie Cauklins Opera House, is a bold and beautiful array of two World Premieres, a Denver Premiere, and a dynamic celebration of Haitian tradition.

The Four Journeys, choreographed by Maestra Amalia Viviana Basanta Hernández, and commissioned by Cleo Parker Robinson Dance with the support of the New England Foundation for the Arts, was in development for two years during COVID and is a testament to the power of art transcending borders, with technology linking artists.  Hernández utilizes the story of Mexican Saint Catarina de San Juan (aka China Poblana, ca. 1607 to 1688), a slave captured in Modor, China and brought to Mexico via the Philippines. The work explores Mexico’s four root cultures—Indigenous, Spanish, Asian, and African—in a multi-media production embracing elements of each heritage.

Freedom Dance, music created by Denver’s Grammy Award-winning jazz icon Dianne Reeves, will be performed live with choreography by Cleo Parker Robinson. This World Premiere work is a long-awaited collaboration between these two remarkable artists.

Standing On The Shoulders, commissioned by the Vail Valley Foundation, is hot off of the Vail Dance Festival stage for its Denver Premiere. Created by Cleo Parker Robinson to the music of Omar Thomas, this work was the finale presentation of the 2021 festival, celebrating unity, renewal, and reunion.

Fusion, by Haitian choreographer Jeanguy Saintus, expresses the myriad cultural legacies of Indigenous, African, and French influences with folk, improvisation, and voudoun vibrance in color and movement. We are delighted to announce that Mr. Saintus will be at the performances!

Find tickets, details, and links to the 7:30 p.m. September 25 or 2 p.m. September 26 (both Mountain Daylight Time) at cleoparkerdance.org. There will also be a livestream option for September 26 only. Contact pat@ontargetpr.net for livestream details and pricing.
