Hooded is an irreverent and darkly-comedic examination of two very different 14-year-old black boys growing up in America. Marquis, a book smart prep-school kid from suburban Maryland meets Tru, a street savvy Baltimorean when they find themselves sharing a jailhouse holding cell, before Marquis' uptight and very white adoptive mother comes to spring them out. Tru thinks Marquis has lost his blackness and pens a manual entitled Being Black for Dummies to help him navigate a world of cheerleaders, Black Lives Matter, 2Pac, Nietzsche, and the Gods Apollo & Dionysus each of whom end up vying for Marquis future. Colorado favorite, and True West Award winner, Betty Hart, directs this exciting and timely regional premiere.
