GEE’S BEND
By Elyzabeth Gregory Wilder
Directed by donnie l. betts
Building on a tradition brought to the Fox stage with the 2024 production of AUGUST WILSON'S GEM OF THE OCEAN, GEE’S BEND tells the powerful story of a family of quilters from the isolated town of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. Spanning the years 1939, 1965, and 2002, the play follows Sadie and her family as they confront the struggles of segregation, household conflict, and the Southern Freedom Movement. Throughout their journey, the women’s extraordinary quilts offer comfort and a creative outlet, ultimately empowering them when their work is recognized as art.
