The Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra’s (CJRO) brings national recording artist Tatiana LadyMay Mayfield to the Arvada Center for an evening of music from the queen of soul herself, Aretha Franklin! All your favorite hits will be heard along with other iconic women of jazz and soul on Saturday, July 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Arvada Center’s Outdoor Amphitheatre, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., Arvada CO 80003. The CJRO will perform not only the music of Aretha Franklin but will also include several of the great soul divas. Songs include “Ain’t Nobody” (Chaka Kahn), “The Sweetest Taboo” (Sade) and of course Aretha classics such as “Chain of Fools,” and “Natural Woman” among others. LadyMay will be performing with the full CJRO orchestra for a night of music you won’t want to miss!
Tatiana LadyMay Mayfield is one of the top rising star vocalists in the country, with a voice and persona that have been described by many as refreshing and beautiful. She last appeared with the CJRO in 2022 performing the Ladies of Jazz at Dazzle and the Schoolhouse in Parker. A jazz/soul vocalist, musician, composer, and educator from Fort Worth, Texas, LadyMay has performed in various venues and festivals throughout the U.S. and abroad, which have earned her rave reviews from listeners and musicians in addition to numerous awards. Some highlights of her career include performing with the legendary Cincinnati POPS Orchestra, having a #1 song on the UK Soul Chart, performing and teaching in Zhuhai, China, and being the first woman and African American person to receive a Master of Music in Jazz Composition from the University of Texas/Arlington. This fall Tatiana will relocate to Colorado joining the Lamont School of Music at University of Denver as assistant professor of Contemporary Popular Music.
Founded in 2012 by bandleader, Art Bouton, with a mission to perform the best music with the best musicians, the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra does just that and more. Exciting world-renowned guest artists and many of the finest regional musicians perform anything from rollicking big band classics to contemporary large and small ensemble jazz to enthusiastic concert goers across Colorado. Audiences at the Arvada Center, PACE Center in Parker, Lakewood Cultural Center, Lone Tree Arts Center, Parsons Theatre in Northglenn and beyond have heard the CJRO perform music from Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, and Buddy Rich as well as original arrangements by CJRO composers and other artists.
