Local favorite Wendy Woo is set to open the 2010 free summer concert series, Strumming Through Summer, at E.B. Rains Jr. Memorial Park on Wednesday, June 23 at 6:30 p.m. Wendy's energetic personality, musical skills, and spirited songwriting have made her a media and fan favorite and have taken her to venues across the country including the Fox Theater and Red Rocks in Colorado, the Bitter End and the Living Room in New York, the Hotel Cafe in Los Angles, the Bluebird Café in Nashville, Sweetwater in Mill Valley, and Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Georgia. In 2009 the Wendy Woo Band made the top 5 for Best Local Band on Denver 7's A List. Woo has released eight CDs displaying a wide variety of styles.
Strumming Through Summer is sponsored by SCFD, NAHF, the Northglenn/Thornton Sentinel, Bellco Credit Union, MedExpress, and the City of Northglenn. Scheduled to perform are: Wendy Woo, June 23; Spring Creek, June 30; Gypsy Swing Revue, July 7; Dakota Blonde, July 14; Churchill, July 21; and Paper Bird, July 28. Concerts are on Wednesday evenings starting at 6:30 p.m. In case of inclement weather, concerts will be moved indoors to the D.L. Parsons Theatre across the street at the Northglenn Recreation Center. Concerts moved to the Theatre will start at 7:00 p.m. For more information about the concerts, call (303) 450-8800.
Northglenn's 10th annual Art On Parade unveiling ceremony will be held before Woo's concert at 6 p.m. The park is located at 11801 Community Center Drive; one-half mile south of 120th Avenue and Grant St.
The Northglenn Arts and Humanities Foundation (NAHF) is a 501(c)3 organization that provides funding for quality youth theatre, public art, and other cultural endeavors in our community. NAHF was founded in 1990.
