Theatre Aspen today announced that single tickets for its summer season are now on sale. Full season passes with exclusive access to booking seats, no fees and other benefits, are among an array of available options, including specially priced preview passes and the popular Local's Pass for valley residents, offered through June 1. Tickets and passes are available through the organization's website at theatreaspen.org, where complete schedules and pricing are found.
The theater's 33rd season in the Hurst Theatre opens with the regional premiere of the megahit musical MAMMA MIA!, running in repertory with the one-man comedy Buyer & Cellar and the musical Dear Edwina. The organization also announced the return of the Aspen Theatre Festival for new work. Festival performances take place between August 22nd - 25th. Festival shows will be announced in early June.
Carbonell Award winner and Theatre Aspen favorite Mark Martino will direct and choreograph MAMMA MIA!, opening June 24th and playing through August 20th. The book is by Catherine Johnson with music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and some songs with Stig Anderson. Maurice "Mo" LaMee directs Buyer & Cellar, by Jonathan Tolins, opening July 7th and running through August 19th. LaMee is the current director of Aspen Words, and prior to his tenure there, was the Executive and Artistic Director of Creede Repertory, garnering the Denver Post's Colorado "Theatre Person of the Year" award in 2011.
The musical Dear Edwina (book and lyrics by Marcy Heisler and music by Zina Goldrich), will be directed and choreographed by Theatre Aspen Executive Artistic Director Paige Price, with co-choreographer Alie Walsh Dame. The musical will be presented on weekend mornings, from July 15th through August 13th.
The organization initiated their new play initiative in 2014 with the Duncan Sheik/Steven Sater musical Alice By Heart.
