Theatre Aspen School today announced that tickets are on sale now for the Winter Teen Conservatory production of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest. The show runs at the Aspen District Theatre tonight through Saturday, December 19th - 21st at 7:00 pm, and on Sunday, December 22nd at 2:00pm.
The Importance of Being Earnest, "A Trivial Comedy for Serious People," has been entertaining audiences for over a hundred years. Considered the culmination of Wilde's artistic career, this farcical comedy pokes fun at the social conventions of late Victorian London. Mocking serious traditions and customs, like the institution of marriage, the pursuit of love and proper social etiquette, the play is a comedy of manners delivered with a cadence and wit that is signature Wilde.
The ensemble production features several veterans of Theatre Aspen School's conservatory program, as well as talented newcomers. The entirely local cast includes Ben Belinski, Julia Foran, TJ Kaiser, Emery Major, Tatum Shane, Jaclyn Harris, Lyon Hamill, Luis Martinez and Raam Weinfeld. Earnest marks the tenth winter production of the Teen Conservatory, in addition to over a dozen summer productions. Graham Northrup, Theatre Aspen's Director of Education, helms the production. Theatre Aspen School (TAS) offers theatre education for children ages 5-18, as well as adults. The school's approach emphasizes providing high-quality professional training in the various elements of theatre - both onstage and backstage - in lieu of merely just providing a performance opportunity. The organization's goal is to build character and confidence in its students.Tickets for The Importance of Being Earnest are on sale now and are available through the Wheeler Box Office, at aspenshowtix.com or by calling 970-920-5770. Prices are $20 for adults, and $12 for students up to age 18.
