Theatre Aspen School presents the Spring Production of The Hobbit, a musical adventure adapted from the beloved book by J. R. R. Tolkien. The show runs at the Wheeler Opera House on Thursday through Saturday, April 17th - 19th with evening shows at 6:30PM and an added matinee on Saturday at 2PM.

Adapted by Ruth Perry with music by Alan Jay Friedman and Lyrics by David Rogers, the show starts out with the wizard, Gandalf and the mighty dwarves who talk the reluctant hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, into joining them on a great adventure. Dragons, treasure and an exciting quest await Bilbo, the dwarves, and the many others they meet along the way in The Hobbit. The production features a cast of talented students grades 4-8 under the direction of Graham Northrup, Theatre Aspen's Director of Education. Musical director is Terry Lee.

Theatre Aspen School (TAS) offers theatre education for children ages 5-18, as well as adults. The school's approach emphasizes providing high-quality professional training in the various elements of theatre - both onstage and backstage - in lieu of merely just providing a performance opportunity. The organization's goal is to build character and confidence in its students. Registration for TAS summer classes and theatre workshops is underway. For further information contact Graham Northrup, at 970-300.4299 or visit www.theatreaspen.org.

Tickets for The Hobbit are on sale now and are available through the Wheeler Box Office, at aspenshowtix.com or by calling 970-920-5770. Prices are $15 for adults, and $10 for students up to age 18.

Theatre Aspen School is supported by ANB Bank. Need-based scholarships and production expenses are generously underwritten by Juliet Shield-Taylor and the Robins Foundation and Jackie and Jerry Kehle.
