Theatre Company of Lafayette presents "Glengarry Glen Ross"
by David Mamet, directed by Ian Gerber.
Winner of the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for drama, "Glengarry Glen Ross" is David Mamet's scorching play about a group of desperate salesmen who resort to manipulation, bribery and even theft to keep their jobs and follow the American Dream. Hailed as a showcase for a tight ensemble of actors, Mamet's play presents a world of men and masculinity in all its unsound, impotent, and rageful wonder.
From director Ian Gerber, "Ever since seeing my first Mamet play in Chicago in 1978, which happened to be "Sexual Perversity in Chicago," I have been fascinated with his language and characters. Now getting to direct these eight strong, talented actors in this edgy piece is quite exciting. This look at human greed, desperation, and a particular breed of salesmen is just as powerful now as when it won the Pulitzer almost 30 years ago."
Revived on Broadway in 2005 and 2012, this influential piece of American drama also became a celebrated film in 1992 starring Al Pacino, Jack Lemmon, Alec Baldwin and Alan Arkin.
