Theatre Aspen announced that its annual costume fundraiser takes place Saturday, March 5th, featuring the theme "MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again!" in anticipation of the blockbuster musical that will play at the Hurst Theatre this summer. The organization, celebrating its thirty-third year, will hold the gala once more at the Hotel Jerome, with dinner, DJ Naka G, silent and live auctions, special entertainment and dancing. Last year's "HOT! HOT! HOT!" gala sold out, with more than 250 guests attending.
Theatre Aspen's winter gala is the not-for-profit's most important fundraising event, raising money for an extensive year-round education program and an award-winning summer repertory theatre, as well as an end-of-summer festival for new and innovative works of theatre.
Special performances by Broadway's Susan Egan and Thom Christopher Warren will enhance the evening. Egan was nominated for a Tony Award for her performance as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and starred in Cabaret, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Triumph of Love and voiced the heroine "Meg" in the animated Disney feature Hercules. Aspen audiences will remember Warren from last season's Peter and the Starcatcher, when he took a break from his stint in Broadway's The Lion King to perform as "Black Stache." Warren is once again stealing away from his Broadway engagement to help Theatre Aspen raise funds for the organization's ambitious programming.
Back for his second engagement with Theatre Aspen as special guest auctioneer is Robbie Gordy, a Features Writer and Charity Auctioneer at Christie's New York. A Fulbright Scholar and graduate of London's Courtauld Institute of Art, Robbie studied nineteenth-century European painting and sculpture, as well as Modern and Contemporary art, before joining Christie's London salerooms. He serves as a Charity Auctioneer for philanthropic organizations across the United States.
The full 2016 season will be formally unveiled at the event. As previously announced, the Hurst Theatre opens June 24th, with the global hit musical MAMMA MIA!. The season also includes the comedy Buyer & Cellar, by Jonathan Tolins. Younger audiences will be treated to Dear Edwina, which will be presented on weekend mornings.
Sponsors for this year's gala include ANB Bank, the Hotel Jerome, Tito's Handmade Vodka, Christie's and Aspen Peak, Local Spirits, Southern Wine & Spirits.
