The repertory season will open June 24th with the global megahit MAMMA MIA!, with the largest cast ever presented on the Hurst stage. The book is by Catherine Johnson with music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, and some songs with Stig Anderson. Mark Martino helms the musical, featuring a member of the original Broadway cast. Mark Price, who will play Harry, was the original "Pepper" when the show opened on Broadway in 2001. They are joined by Anne Brummel as Donna Sheridan, Margot Moreland (Rosie), Jim Ballard (Sam), Dane Agostinis (Bill), Elise Kinnon (Tanya), Cristina Oeschger (Sophie), Jordan Bollwerk (Sky), Marcus Shane (Pepper), Alie Walsh Dame (Ali), Chavon Hampton (Lisa), Ryne Nardecchia (Eddie), Brianna Barnes, Amber Carson, Jeffrey Correia, Veronica Fiaoni, Spencer Hansen, Madison Pugh, Juliette Redden and Kyle Weiler.
Buyer & Cellar, by Jonathan Tolins, stars Jeffrey Correia, who appeared at Theatre Aspen in previous seasons (Avenue Q and Becky's New Car). The one-man comedy is directed by Maurice LaMee, longtime Executive and Artistic Director of the Creede Repertory Theatre, who will become head of the Theatre Arts department at Mesa State College in the fall.
Alie Walsh Dame stars in Dear Edwina, with book and lyrics by Marcy Heisler and music by Zina Goldrich. The musical will be directed and choreographed by Paige Price, co-choreographed by Alie Walsh Dame, with Spencer Hansen (Joe), Nicole Patrick (Myra), Marcus Shane (Scott), Kyle Weiler (Billy), Ryne Nardecchia (Bobby), Juliette Redden (Kelli) and Madison Pugh (Annie) rounding out the cast.
The repertory season runs June 24th through August 20th. The second annual Aspen Theatre Festival, featuring new plays and musicals being developed for the stage, will run August 22nd through August 25th. This season The Museum of Broken Relationships will do developmental work. The new musical, with book and lyrics by David H. Bell, and music by Daniel Green, was also one of three shows selected for this year's O'Neill Festival.
Theatre Aspen (Aspen Non-Profit Business of the Year in 2012) was awarded the "Outstanding Regional Theatre" Henry Award in Denver in 2009, garnered 7 nominations in 2015 and Alison Luff (Broadway's LES MISERABLES) won a Best Supporting Actress Denver Post Ovation Award for her work as Olive in Theatre Aspen's The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Denver Post Ovation nominees include Joan Hess, Beth Malone (Fun Home), Aaron Rhyne, Julia Foran and Sandy Duncan.
