Theatre Aspen, winner of the 2008-09 Henry Award for "Outstanding Regional Theatre Company," is currently presenting THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE. Sunday Series begins July 5 with ALMOST, MAINE.
THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE runs through August 20. This Tony-winning hit musical comedy celebrates six young misfits in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves. They learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. This hilarious tale of overachievers' angst chronicles the experiences of six young people vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. The Tony Award-winning creative team has created the unlikeliest of musicals about the unlikeliest of heroes: a quirky yet charming cast of outsiders for whom a spelling bee is the one place where they can stand out and fit in at the same time. Kid- and adult-friendly, age 8 and up, running time 90 mins, no intermission.
Before every performance of Spelling Bee, four audience volunteers are recruited to participate on stage as guest spellers. Each new group guarantees a new set of unexpected and hilarious experiences - every night is different!
Sunday Series begins July 5 with ALMOST, MAINE. The romantic comedy Almost, Maine gets a special staging, directed by TA alumni David Ledingham and featuring Beth Malone, Mike Monroney, Jeannie Walla, Jonathan Kay, Robin Lee Gallo and more!
