The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will continue the 2016 - 2017 Black Box Repertory season with the regional premiere of The Drowning Girls, directed by Lynne Collins, opening Friday, March 17, 2017. The Drowning Girls is written by Beth Graham, Charlie Tomlinson, and Daniela Vlaskalic. Dark, lyrical and poignant, The Drowning Girls blends true crime with the surreal as it explores the lives and deaths of three women murdered by the same man.
Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday matinees at 1:00 p.m., and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m., through May 21. Preview performances are March 15 and 16 at 7:30 p.m. Please note, additional performances have been added on Wednesday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. Audience engagement events, including insider's talkbacks and chats with the cast, are held through the run of the production. The Drowning Girls is performed without an intermission. To purchase tickets go to http://arvadacenter.org/drowning-girls or call 720-898-7200. The Arvada Center is located at 6901 Wadsworth Blvd. and provides free parking for its patrons.
Bessie, Alice, and Margaret have two things in common: they are married to George Joseph Smith, and they are dead. Surfacing from the bathtubs they were drowned in, the three breathless brides gather evidence against their womanizing, murderous husband by reliving the shocking events leading up to their demise. Reflecting on the misconceptions of love, married life, and the not-so-happily ever after, The Drowning Girls is both a breathtaking fantasia and a social critique, full of rich images, a myriad of characters, and lyrical language.
The Drowning Girls continues the Arvada Center's spring repertory theatre season. It is presented by members of the Center's ensemble company of actors, directors, technical artists and designers, and performed as part of the Center's three-play repertory rotation. In addition to director Lynne Collins, the creative team includes Meghan Anderson Doyle (Costume Design), Jason Ducat (Sound Design), Brian Mallgrave (Scenic Design) and Jon Olson (Lighting Design). The Artistic Director of Plays is Lynne Collins.
