The Arvada Center Opens The Musical SEUSSICAL  Image

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities opens the children's musical Seussical on October 10 - December 29, 2018. Based on the stories of Dr. Seuss, the musical is an amalgamation of many of his most famous books, like Horton Hears a Who! and Dr. Seuss's Gertrude McFuzz. Seussical is directed by David and Julie Payne, with musical direction by Keith Ewer and choreography by Piper Arpan. The Arvada Center Artistic Producer of Musical Theatre is Rod A. Lansberry. Seussical is sponsored by US Bank, Xcel Energy, and the Fine Arts Foundation.

Enter the fantastic world of Dr. Seuss in the musical, Seussical! Music and dance bring characters like Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and Gertrude McFuzz together on stage. Don't miss out on all the fun and all the "thinks you can think"! The musical debuted on Broadway in 2000 and spawned two US national tours and a UK tour. It has become a beloved classic for schools and regional theatres around the world.

Seussical will be Audio Described for the sight impaired on Tuesday, October 23 at 10:00 a.m. It will be Shadow-interpreted for the hearing impaired on Thursday, October 25 at 10:00 a.m. and noon. Shadow-interpreted theatre utilizes specially trained American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters to perform as "shadows" on stage alongside actors. A sensory-friendly performance of the Seussical will be held on December 3 at 10:00 a.m. Sensory-friendly performances are exclusively produced for patrons with autism, Down Syndrome and sensory processing disorders and their families.

The cast includes Brandon Bill (Horton), Ben Griffin (Cat), Barret Harper (Mr. Mayor, Wickersham 3), Emma Maxfield (Sour Kangaroo, Fish, Bird Girl), Susannah McLeod (Wickersham 2, Bird Girl, Who, Fish), David Miller (Wickersham 1, Who), Melissa Morris (Boy/Jojo), Morgan Patterson (Mayzie, Fish), Alissa Robinson (Mrs. Mayor, Bird Girl), and Rebecca Spence (Gertrude, Fish).

Since its opening in July 1976, the award-winning Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities has grown to become one of the nation's largest multidisciplinary arts centers, devoted to all aspects of the arts and generously supported in part by the City of Arvada, the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) and Colorado Creative Industries.
