The Arvada Center Opens Its 43rd Season With MAMMA MIA!

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will open its 43rd theatre season with the hit Broadway musical Mamma Mia! directed by Rod A. Lansberry, on Friday, September 7, 2018. Mamma Mia! is based on the songs of ABBA, one of the most popular international pop groups of all time. It follows a young bride's quest to discover the true identity of her father and the story unfolds to hilarious consequence when she invites three men from her mother's past to her wedding. Since its premiere in 1999, it's been performed in over 40 countries, and every day, there are at least seven performances being staged somewhere in the world. The 2018 - 2019 Theatre Season Presenting Sponsor is Lutheran Medical Center.

Performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 pm, matinees on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm, and Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 pm, through September 30. Audience engagement events, including a weekly theatre salon (registration required), insider's talkbacks, and happy hours with the cast, are held through the run of the production. Mamma Mia! is the ultimate feel-good experience that has audiences coming back again and again to relive the excitement! This smash-hit musical combines ABBA's greatest hits, including "Dancing Queen" and "Take A Chance on Me," with an enchanting tale of love, laughter, and friendship. The magic of ABBA's timeless songs and a delightful story of romance propel this charming musical to a paradise adventure you won't want to miss.

Mamma Mia! music and lyrics are by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, with some songs with Stig Anderson. The book was written by Catherine Johnson. Originally conceived by Judy Cramer. In addition to director Rod A. Lansberry, the Arvada Center creative team includes Nolan Bonvouloir (musical director), Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck (choreographer), Brian Mallgrave (scene design), Clare Henkel (costume design), Shannon McKinney (light design) and David Thomas (sound design).

The cast features Mariah MacFarlane (Sophie Sheridan), Shannan Steele (Donna Sheridan), Piper Lindsay Arpan (Tanya), Megan Van de Hey (Rosie), Glenn DeVar (Sky), Mark Devine (Harry Bright), Jeffrey Roark (Bill Austin), and Daniel Robert Sullivan (Sam Carmichael). The ensemble features Jasmine Jackson, Emily Hin, Mckayla Marso, Emily Luhrs, Lindsey Somers, Danielle Scheib, Kitty Skillman Hilsabeck, Alissa Robinson, Michael Bouchard, Daniel Velasquez, Nolan Baker, Barret Harper, Elliot Peterson, Benjamin Roeling, Colin Lee and Joe Callahan.

Then join the Arvada Center Theatre Salon where you'll spend 4 weeks exploring the script and its themes, the sets and costumes, the playwright and the history behind it all.
