Stoneham Theatre celebrates the holidays with the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Mame, Directed and Choreographed by Elliot Norton and IRNE Award-winner Ilyse Robbins. Featuring song favorites Bosom Buddies and If He Walked Into My Life, this unforgettable classic centers on the eccentric Mame Dennis, who lives a carefree life in 1920s New York until she unexpectedly becomes the guardian to her 10-year-old nephew, Patrick. Rather than change her ways, Mame introduces Patrick to all the wonder of her wild bohemian world while discovering the joy of having a family of her own. Performances run from November 25-December 23, 2016. Press Opening is Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 7:00pm.
Shares Robbins, "What excites me most about directing and choreographing Mame is taking a beloved show and giving it fresh eyes, while still honoring what makes it the favorite that it is and has been for so many years. I am excited to bring the story of this wonderful, open, accepting woman to the stage again at a time where I think we need to be reminded that being kind is a fine and desirable trait."
"After the tremendous response we received for Meet Me in St. Louis two years ago, we decided that we wanted to look at another beloved musical for the holidays this year. And, the fact that Mame has a wonderful Christmas song in it (We Need a Little Christmas) made it an immediate front-runner. Then, when Kathy St. George agreed to play the lead we knew we had to do it. Mame's appeal is that it's a big, brassy, fun, family-friendly musical with an absolutely irrepressible title character," says Producing Artistic Director Weylin Symes.
In addition to stars Kathy St. George and Mary Callanan, the Mame cast includes Stoneham Theatre favorites Margaret Ann Brady, Meryl Galaid, John O'Neil, Robert Saoud, and Ceit Zweil. As well as Katie Anne Clark, Serge Clivio, Sarah Kawalek, Sarah Mass, Will McGarrahan, Sean McGuirk, Brian-Barry Pereira, Matty Rickard, Rhys Scheibe, and Hannah Shihdanian. Mame's cast also includes student actors alongside the professional artists as part of the young company comes to Mainstage program: Cameron Levesque, Asher Navisky, and Isabelle Richards.
