Springs Ensemble Theatre ("SET") continues our fifth anniversary season with Yasmina Reza's, 'ART' a comedy that challenges the conventions of art and the definition of friendship.
Marc is upset because one of his best friends, Serge, has bought a painting. It's a canvas about five feet by four, white on white with diagonal white lines. Marc thinks the painting is a joke. Serge thinks Marc doesn't have the training to understand. Their other friend, Yvan, eager to placate both of them, allows Marc and Serge to pull him into the middle of their disagreement. As the play goes on, lines are crossed, loyalties tested, and the trio's arguments become less theoretical and more personal. Will their friendship survive?
Winner of the Olivier Award for Best Comedy in 1996, 'ART' first premiered on Broadway in 1998 featuring Alan Alda (Wanderlust, Tower Heist), Victor Garber (Argo, Milk), and Alfred Molina (The Da Vinci Code, Spiderman 2) where it won the Tony for Best Play and ran for 600 performances.
SET's production is directed by Sarah S. Shaver and features performances by SET members Matt Radcliffe and Emory John Collinson and guest artist Aaron R. Jennejahn. The actors will be performing different parts on alternating nights--join us twice for two different experiences!
