Spotlight Theatre presents "Rope" May 16 through June 13 at the John Hand Theater in Lowry, with performances on Fridays, Saturdays and Monday, June 1 at 7:30.p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m and Saturday, June 13 at 2 p.m.
Obsessed with committing the perfect crime, two arrogant young men decide to murder a fellow classmate. They place the body in a wooden chest, and to add spice to their handiwork, invite a few acquaintances, including the dead youth's father, to a party, the chest with its gruesome contents serving as a supper table. The murder has no apparent reason other than to show they can get away with it, but can they?
The cast, under the direction of Bernie Cardell, includes Drew Hirschboeck (Brandon Shaw), Brandon Palmer (Phillip Morgan), Todd Black (Rupert Cadell), Gina Walker (Mrs. Wilson), Claude Diener (Mr. Kentley), Sheri Wright (Mrs. Atwater), Jaclyn Walsh (Janet) and Mike Martinkus (Kenneth Lawrence).
"Rope," based loosely on the 1924 Leopold and Loeb murder case, was the inspiration for the 1948 Alfred Hitchcock film of the same name.
Tickets are $21 Adult, $19 Students/Seniors and available by calling 720-880-8727 or online at www.thisisspotlight.com. The John Hand Theater is located at 7653 E. 1st Place, Denver, CO 80230. Free parking.
