Spotlight Theatre Company will produce the Ira Levin comedy-thriller, Deathtrap, opening Saturday, April 5, and running through Saturday, May 3, 2014. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, and Sundays at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $21 for General Admission and $19 for Students/Seniors. All matinees are only $16. Performances will be held at the John Hand Theater, 7653 E. 1st Place, Denver.
After a series of failures, Broadway playwright Sidney Bruhl is getting desperate. When former student Clifford Anderson arrives with what could be a Broadway hit, a deadly plan begins to form. With his wife's help, Sidney just might turn Clifford's sure-fire hit into his own! The suspense mounts as the plot twists and turns with such devilish cleverness that audiences will be held enthralled until the final startling moments. Spotlight Artistic Director Bernie Cardell is at the helm of this show. Cardell says of directing Deathtrap, "I love this play because it is a love letter to the great stage thrillers of all time. It is brilliant in its construction and full of suspense and wit. I wanted to direct this show because I felt it would be a good fit for our Spotlight audiences and I love directing thrillers!"
The cast for Deathtrap includes Andy Anderson, Cindy Laudadio-Hill, Damon Guerrasio, Linda Suttle and Wade Livingston.
Deathtrap opened on Broadway in 1978 and had a four-year run. It holds the record for the longest running comedy-thriller on Broadway and was also nominated for the Tony Award for Best Play of 1978.
In addition to the regular schedule of performances, Spotlight is adding an Industry Night at 7:30 pm on Thursday, April 10 and a Saturday matinee at 2 pm on May 3.
