The CRUNK Summer Youth Program is a five week project with youth apprentices in all aspects of theatre, from writing, directing, acting, technical production, marketing and promotions. The Shadow Youth Ensemble- through prose, poetry, song, dance and artistry; will create a wonderful journey of the rediscovery of the roots and beauty, all from "the heart of the human condition."
CRUNK is unique in that it is designed for young people willing to try something different and who believe that their own self expression is their greatest gift. CRUNK will in turn harness this creative expression through disciplined performing arts. Classes, taught by local theatre professionals and other artists, will engage the young people in the many facets of live performance (acting, movement, music) and will culminate in a show, written by the attendees in collaboration with a professional playwright. In turn, graduates from the program will be expected to give back what they have received by becoming peer counselors in subsequent programs.
The program will begin Tuesday, July 5, 2011, at the Aurora Fox Arts Center at 9900 E Colfax Avenue in Aurora, Colorado and will end Saturday, August 6th with three weekend performances. The program will run for four consecutive weeks, four days a week, Monday - Thursday between the hours of 4:00 pm and 9:00 pm. Students who have job conflicts or who would have scheduling conflicts during this period NEED NOT APPLY. Students are required to bring their own lunch. Students are expected to arrive on time each morning having already eaten breakfast and fully prepared to participate.
Past applicants, note that the program times have been changed from morning to evening this year.
In addition to our theatrical season, each summer Shadow provides an intensive, five-week artist-in-residence program for area youth that culminates in a full production led, produced, directed and performed by program participants.
