Presented for the first time west of the Mississippi, CenterStage Theatre Company's Be More Chill is a zany sci-fi musical with an infectious score and hilarious characters. Based on the book by Ned Vizzini (It's Kind of a Funny Story) and adapted by Joe Iconis (NBC's Smash, The Black Suits) and Joe Tracz (The Lightning Thief, Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events), Be More Chill developed an online cult following after its premiere at New Jersey's Two River Theatre in 2015. CenterStage is one of the first companies in the world to produce this musical that has united a generation of young theatre fans across the globe.
The musical tells the story of awkward, nerdy teenager Jeremy Heere, whose life takes a drastic turn when he discovers The Squip - a tiny supercomputer that implants itself inside his brain. With the Squip's guidance, Jeremy goes from social outcast to one of the most popular kids in school, but he risks losing himself in the process.
"I'm thrilled to bring Be More Chill to Louisville," says director Taylor Roberts. "We jumped at the chance to be the first company to bring this exciting piece to this region, and our cast has been lucky enough to speak with both Iconis and Tracz about the musical, its characters, and more. Be More Chill promises to be on every theatre fan's radar in the next few years, and you can say you saw it here first."
Be More Chill is the first fully-staged production to be presented in Colorado's newest theatre space - CenterStage's Black Box at Koko Plaza. This new theatre marks a huge leap forward for the theatre company, which has brought plays and musicals to the community since 1999.
