AACTFest 2015 is a national theatre event that brings the best community theatre productions from across the country and the U.S. Armed Services abroad. It is estimated that over 600 people participated in this American Association of Community Theatre Flagship event. Performances, workshops, and exhibitions were included as part of the festival activities.
"We so enjoyed our experience at AACTFest 2015. It was an incredible celebration of community theatre and we were honored to be a part of it," shared Kelly Van Oosbree, representing for the Platte Valley Players.
The Colorado Theatre Festival, produced by the Colorado Community Theatre Coalition, is regarded as a model for state festivals and consistently generates successful companies advancing to the national community theatre festival. The Platte Valley Players production was no exception to that tradition.
"The Nina Variations" received several recognitions for their work including Third Place Production, People's Choice for Best Actress (Carolyn Lohr). Nominations also granted to the production included Best Achievement in Directing (Kelly Van Oosbree), Best Actress (Carolyn Lohr), Best Actor (Josh Rigo), Best Lighting (Kelly Van Oosbree), and Best Sound (Kelly Van Oosbree)
Attending AACTFest 2015, Brad Moore, Vice President of the Colorado Community Theatre Coalition, praised The Platte Valley Players for their strong showing. "It was thrilling to see the growth of the production by the Platte Valley Players. The company truly took the adjudicator's comments and their experiences from the Colorado Festival and brought a much more developed performance to the National Festival. This was an example of how this process should work."Speaking of their journey to AACTFest 2015, director, Kelly Van Oosbree shared, "While we never anticipated attending the National Festival when we were first preparing to perform at the Colorado Festival, we took to heart what the adjudicators at the Colorado Theatre Festival had to say about our show. It was truly a joy to revisit our story."
