Pikes Peak Opera League announces its first special event of 2018, a supper club musical event to benefit Opera Theatre of the Rockies' upcoming opera, Verdi's masterpiece, Aida. The evening features songstress extraordinaire, Lila Mori with Reggie Berg at the piano, straight from the Penrose Room at the Broadmoor offering a private performance entitled "Breaking Up is Hard to Do." Ms. Mori has sung across the region both in the Colorado Opera Festival Chorus, and as a soloist with The Colorado Springs Chorale, among her most notable performances.

Events sponsors for this special opera benefit include Dr. Susan Rae Jensen, Pikes Peak Opera League's President, Mr. Herman Tiemens and the Tiemens Foundation as well as Wells Fargo Private Bank.

Formed originally as the Colorado Opera Festival Guild in 1979, the Pikes Peak Opera League is now in its 39th year. Mission objectives underline the appreciation and knowledge of opera and the advancement of talented young opera and musical theater artists. The breadth of the League's support also includes sponsorship of Opera Theatre of the Rockies, the award-winning Opera Theatre Goes to School program and Opera Theatre's summer Vocal Arts Festival. Pikes Peak Opera League is also dedicated to supporting young Colorado opera singers with the awarding of their annual Career Grants and the sponsorship of its popular spring Young Voice Competition for high school voice students, now in its 6th year.

League membership totals nearly 200 with enthusiastic participation in monthly programs held starting at 10:00 am on the first Wednesday of the months, September through May, (except January). The League's monthly programs take place at a variety of locations across Colorado Springs.

Special events are also planned throughout the year and are open to the public. They may feature educational sessions as well as vocal entertainment based on event themes. This next year's full calendar includes benefits for Opera Theatre of the Rockies, its renowned School Program, serving thousands of young children each year as well as the summer Vocal Arts Festival.
