Released from prison "Arlene" returns to a rundown apartment, intent on starting her life over. Rebellious and disruptive as a young girl, she has found strength in religion and wants to put her youth behind her. But her struggle to find her way in the present is counterpointed by flashbacks of her past.
The show features actress Missy Moore as Arlene with Xandra Prestia Turner (Arlie), Robert Michael Sanders (Bennie), Jonathan Brown (Evan), Tony Ryan (Caldwell), Peter Marullo (Doctor), Erica Sarzin-Borillo (Mother), OD Duhu (Principal), Erik Thurston (Ronnie), Kent Randell (Carl), Max Cabot (Warden) and Kelly Uhlenhopp(Ruby).
Marsha Norman received the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play 'night, Mother. She wrote the book and lyrics for such Broadway musicals as The Secret Garden, for which she won a Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical, and The Red Shoes, as well as the libretto for the musical The Color Purple and the book for the musical The Bridges of Madison County. She writes and lectures frequently on the theatre and has 18 honorary degrees from American colleges and Universities.
