The Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School (Jim Steinberg, Board Chairman; Victor Maog, Director of Theatre), has announced its ambitious 2011 summer season of live theatre at the venerable performing arts camp and school in Steamboat Springs, CO, July 14 - August 5th with full productions of four commissioned new works: Out of Joint by A. Rey Pamatmat, The Moon, created, directed and choreographed by Otis Sallid, the new musical, Hércule's Labour of Love, with Book, Music and Lyrics by Aaron & Anna Jones, Nancy Blue: Girl Detective by Megan Mostyn-Brown and the classic Meredith Willson favorite, The Music Man. The 98th summer season continues Perry-Mansfield's founding principle of nurturing new talent with new work.

Perry-Mansfield Board President Jim Steinberg stated, "Perry-Mansfield is excited and fortunate to have the talents of A. Rey Pamatmat and Otis Sallid collaborating with our Director of Theatre and Musical Theatre, Victor Maog, this summer. Mr. Pamatmat, recent winner of the prestigious 2011 PONY Fellowship, as well as a 2010 Princess Grace Fellow, is one of America's most exciting emerging playwrights. His new one-act play, Out of Joint, was written for Perry-Mansfield students and will have its World Premiere on the Perry-Mansfield campus on July 14."

He went on to add, "Mr. Sallid, whose career as a writer, director and choreographer has spanned the gamut from Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing to the Broadway hit Smokey Joe's Café, will not only direct and choreograph Meredith Willson's iconic American musical, The Music Man, but has also written a new one-act musical, The Moon, that will also have its World Premiere on July 14."

Steinberg concluded by saying, "For our students to have the opportunity to work with such accomplished artists is an experience that will have a positive and lasting impact on their artistic careers and is in Perry-Mansfield's long tradition of one generation of artists showing the way for the next. It continues to reaffirm Perry-Mansfield's place as a national leader in artistic development, and is a tribute to Victor Maog's formidable and dedicated commitment to Perry-Mansfield and to the continuing evolution of the American theatre."

Perry-Mansfield, Director of Theater, Victor Maog shared, "For 98 years, Perry-Mansfield has pioneered new work and trained extraordinary young artists. This summer is no different. Since 2008, Jim Houghton and Juilliard Drama have brought their students to train on our 76 acres. Earlier this summer we introduced our professional-student collaboration with Carole Rothman and Christopher Burney of Second Stage Theatre on Boy Wonders by Joe Tracz at the Perry-Mansfield New Works Festival. Now, we bring to full production four commissioned works by some of the theatre's most dynamic creators. It's a season of world-class artists doing what they do best in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable."

All performances will take place at Perry-Mansfield (40755 Routt County Road 36, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487), July 14 - August 5. For additional information, please visit www.perry-mansfield.org , or call 970-879-7125.

Perry-Mansfield's Original Works Initiative
Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp offers the dedicated student (grade school thru college) the opportunity to engage in a rigorous training program with world class practitioners whose credits include Broadway, Off-Broadway, London's West End, International tours, and major regional theatres and universities. Through ensemble-work, intense collaboration, and individual guidance, some of the nation's most promising young artists explore the classic and ever-changing worlds of live theatre.

Since 2008, Perry-Mansfield's Department of Theatre and Music Theatre, under the leadership of Victor Maog, has embarked on the Original Works Initiative. These new creations are developed by established theatre professionals, written and designed especially for and often in collaboration with our unique student body. They premiere on our historic 76 acre campus and, through publication, are intended to build upon the catalogue of quality age-appropriate material for theatres and schools world-wide.

Across a summer season, the artistic community at P-M showcases brave new works that include original musicals and plays, dance theatre pieces, and a confidence that they are part of a great legacy. Because of their pioneering spirit, Perry-Mansfield's faculty, students, and guest artists have made significant contributions to the performing arts.
