Firehouse Theater Company presents
The Guy's
By Anne Nelson & Directed by Don DeVeux
Firehouse Theater presents the Regional Premiere of The Guy's playing now through through September 17 at the John Hand Theater. In the aftermath of 9/11, a New York City fire captain struggles to prepare eulogies for many of his men who died on that terrible day. He talks about these men--who they were, why they were firefighters, and what they meant to him and the community-with a writer who has volunteered to help him fashion the stories to be told at the memorial services, and the two embark on a journey of friendship, tango, and enduring humanity.
Under the direction of Don DeVeux, Rita Broderick has been cast in the role of Joan and Michael Ingram as Nick. The Guy's runs 75 minutes and is performed without intermission. At the shows conclusion, Firehouse Theatre will present Aftermath.
Aftermath consists of 15 minutes of unrehearsed staged readings of stories written by and about Firefighters. Firehouse will also draw from the collection of poetry used as therapy in the 9/11 aftermath.
Anne Nelson is a widely-produced playwright and screenwriter. Her 2001 play, The Guys became a 2002 feature film starring Sigourney Weaver and Anthony LaPaglia, which received the National Board of Review award for Excellence in Filmmaking.
