Evergreen Players presents Peter Shaffer's BLACK COMEDY playing now through April 7 at Center/Stage in Evergreen, CO. Struggling artist Brindsley Miller and his fiancée Carol are having a party in hopes of impressing Carol’s father, Colonel Melkett, and millionaire Georg Bamberger, who may buy some of Brindsley’s sculptures. They have borrowed (without permission) the expensive furniture and effects of vacationing neighbor, Harold Gorringe, to make the flat more impressive.

Before the guests arrive the main fuse blows, plunging the flat into darkness; only we, the audience, can see what is happening. During this time Harold Gorringe, unexpectedly returns home and Brindsley must return Harold’s furniture before the lights are restored.

Under the direction of Kathleen Davis, the cast includes Patrick Collins (Harold Gorringe), Rebecca Gholson (Carol Melkett), Sean Maslow (Georg Bamberger), Carol Meredith (Miss Furnival), John Meredith (Colonel Melkett), Ken Paul (Schuppanzigh), Frank Plaut (Georg Bamberger), Andrea Rabold (Clea) and JR Cody Schuyler as Brindsley Miller.

Peter Shaffer's canon contains a unique mix of philosophical dramas and satirical comedies. The RoyAl Hunt of the Sun (1964) presents the tragic conquest of Peru by the Spanish, while Black Comedy (1965) takes a humorous look at the antics of a group of characters feeling their way around a pitch black room — although the stage is actually flooded with light. Equus (1973) won Shaffer the 1975 Tony Award for Best Play as well as the New York Drama Critics Circle Award. He followed this success with Amadeus (1979) which won the Evening Standard Drama Award and the Theatre Critics Award for the London production. When the show moved to Broadway it won the 1981 Tony Award for Best Play and, like Equus, ran for more than 1000 performances.

BLACK COMEDY is delighting audiences now through April 7th at Center/Stage, 27608 Fireweed Drive in Evergreen, CO. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. For tickets of more information on Evergreen Players, contact the box office at 303-674-4934 or online at www.evergreenplayers.org
