Equinox Theatre Company presents the second show in its 2012 season with the Denver premiere of Sarah Ruhl's IN THE NEXT ROOM or THE VIBRATOR PLAY playing now through June 16.

In a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating “hysteria” in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor’s laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter—and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new “hysterical” patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor’s home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means to love someone.

The talented cast under the direction of Deb Flomberg includes Charles Wingerter as Dr. Givings; Kaity Talmage-Bowers as Mrs. Givings; Arthur Pierce as Mr. Daldry; Aimee Nelson as Mrs. Daldry; Linda Swanson Brown as Annie; Adam Perkes as Leo; and Lisa Young as Elizabeth.

IN THE NEXT ROOM or THE VIBRATOR PLAY was Sarah Ruhl's Broadway debut, opening on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre in November, 2009. This hysterical play was a 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama finalist and a Best Play Tony Award nominee in 2010.
